Why to study our Past
In order to ensure better future men and nations work hard along with timely, precise and fruitful decision making in the present.
To ensure correct decisions and plannings in the present they have to study their past and analyse what went wrong and what went right.
How to study our past
It’s easy to criticize the decisions, policies and plannings made by leaders in the past. But in what circumstances they acted that way is something hard to understand from this point of time. We can’t understand or feel what they went through. To judge and decide what to do and what not to do and how to do in the present is something far more testing than to talk about what somebody did or did not do in the past. Therefore our approach should be to think critically in judging and evaluating what was achieved and what was not achieved.
Study the past to know how to choose our leaders or whom to follow
Our aim should be to correct our perspective about people and events. Because talking good or bad about events and people from the past is not going to do any good or bad to them, it is going to be of good or bad only to our own selves.
We all set certain standards of quality before us to reach to in all things and actions of our lives, similarly it is to set standards of quality before us to follow and achieve with regard to leadership and service to our people.
We should look for the highest standards of leadership and personality when deciding to select or follow a leader to lead us. Thus one thing our past teaches us is how to choose our leaders or whom to follow.
To judge and decide what to do and what not to do and how to do in the present is something far more testing than to talk about what somebody did or did not do in the past. Therefore our approach should be to think critically in judging and evaluating what was achieved and what was not achieved.
Expectations from our leaders
But here one thing we must keep in mind that we must not consider the persons we choose as our leaders as some sort of supernatural beings, they should be regarded as humans like us with all the human weaknesses like our own selves. We often expect things from our leaders that can only be expected from angels. Another thing is that we must stand by our leaders and support them whenever they are in trouble. We should also correct our behaviour of not giving proper recognition to those people who dry their blood for the homeland. Because here we forget the saying of the Holy Prophet ( SAW) that the ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr. Our strategy should be to work hard to the last drop of our blood for our people.
It will be in the light of this type of approach that we will be able to analyse critically the past actions of those people and MASHARAAN and then judging from the results those actions and decisions they made bore, we are to devise plans of action in our present to make our future better.
Hence we are to study firstly the era of Saidu Baba as background to the formation of Swat State, secondly we will try to work on the history of Swat before the era of Saidu Baba that is the coming of the yousafzai's to Swat, thirdly we will go to that part of history of Swat which covers the era of the Swatis reaching back to the coming of the Muslims, in the beginning of the second millennium, to Swat.
It should be noted that this study is not intended for scholars.
